An Encouragement for Seminarians in a Changing Theological Landscape

by Baily Warman, Director of Seminary Admissions

Your calling to theological education is a deeply significant endeavor that comes with unique challenges and rewards. My hope is that your time at North Park Theological Seminary will prepare you to embrace change and uncertainty with grace and courage. In your studies, you will delve deep into the rich tapestry of theology, history, and biblical studies exploring the profound mysteries of faith and grappling with profound questions about the nature of God and humanity. As you navigate this intricate landscape, remember that doubt is not the enemy of faith, but a companion on the journey.

You will embark on practical ministry experiences through your field education requirements where your role is not limited to the pulpit or a church building. As you minister in classrooms, hospitals, boardrooms, prisons, summer camps, etc. remember the importance of self-care, for you cannot give what you do not possess. Allow your cup to be filled. Remain adaptable and resilient. Nurture your own spiritual and emotional well-being, so you can continue to be a source of love and strength for others in a world that needs it more than ever.

And finally, remember, your journey is not one of solitude. You are part of a community that deeply cares for you. Lean on your classmates and professors for support, wisdom, and shared experiences. Even when it feels like it, you never walk alone. You are never alone. Together, we can overcome the challenges and pain that will inevitably come our way. Stay faithful to your calling, keep your heart open, and remain committed to lifelong learning in community.

ā€œI thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.ā€
