The Lenten season can be a helpful time to reflect on our shortcomings, sin and failures. Of course this is never easy or welcome reflection but necessary nonetheless. Without reflection on our sin and failings we remain stuck in the ruts that our habits of sin create. Reflection, meditation and prayer can help to lift us from those ruts which we so easily drift into.
The scriptures tell us that Jesus too was tempted in every way as we are, and yet was without sin. This can feel unknowable and un-relatable to us “mere” humans. The prayer Jesus taught us to pray included a petition that we would be led away from temptation which is a good reminder that Jesus does know all of our trouble. Perhaps in this season the petition becomes even more relevant for us.
This Thursday, February 25 at 11am CST Pastor Terence Gadsden from University Ministries will be preaching on the temptation of Jesus from Matthew 4:1-11. Pastor Terence has been in his role as Campus Co-Pastor and Athletic Chaplain since the fall of 2019. Prior to that he was the Urban Outreach Coordinator and Athletic chaplain. Please join us to hear the word and receive encouragement to continue on your journey of faith and discipleship.
