Have You Thought About Summer Internships?

As we approach the mid-point of this semester it is good to start envisioning what one might do this next summer and beyond as far as fulfilling Field Education requirements for one’s degree program.

Tim Johnson (tjohnson2@northpark.edu) and Deborah Penny (dpenny@northpark.edu) can meet with you about possible ministry opportunities that have been directed toward them. Most of these are internship credit worthy.

Some possibilities include:

Chaplaincy with Presbyterian Homes. On Monday March 2nd there will be a 11:30 informational lunch meeting about this opportunity in nearby Evanston. We have had 4 students intern with this program in the last 4 years. It is a paid internship that includes frequent preaching opportunities and class sessions with rich pastoral care content. Let Tim know if you are interested in attending the March 2nd gathering or in finding out more about the program.

Swedish Hospital Summer Chaplaincy. You can fulfill your CPE requirement by doing this non-accredited half unit at Swedish Hospital this next summer. Representatives from the Pastoral Care Department at Swedish Hospital will be with us at NPTS on Thursday March 5th. After Chapel they will be with us for our community lunch presenting information about this program.

Deborah and Tim also have a lot of information about other CPE programs near and far. In addition, information has been directed to NPTS about ministry opportunities in such places as Connecticut, Minnesota and Washington as well as greater Chicago.
