Palmquist Lectures

We are thrilled to welcome the Reverends Dr. Gloria White-Hammond and Dr. Ray Hammond to campus for this year’s A. Eldon Palmquist Lectureship in Preaching. Together, the Hammonds pastor Bethel AME Church in Boston, MA and bring a wealth of knowledge and experience as physicians and leaders in their community. They will give two lectures on February 27 beginning at 6:30 pm in Isaacson Chapel. The lectures are free and open to the public. Please join us! More information found on the website

Inauguration of President Surridge

We are excited to celebrate the inauguration of Mary Karsten Surridge as the 10th president of North Park University. Next week is filled with a host of festivities and we hope you join. You can find the entire calendar of events here. Please make special note of the university chapel service happening on Feb 13th followed by lunch, which is replacing the Seminary’s weekly service. The formal installation service is in on Friday, February 15.

Vocational and Spiritual Formation for Leadership (VSFL)

All degree seeking students have co-curricular requirements that run alongside your academic requirements. If you need a refresher about any of these, you can find them on the web. For those of you participating in either MDiv Candidacy or Mid-Program Review this semester, papers/portfolios are due Feb 25. Questions, talk to Emily Wagner.

Alan Marshall’s Freedom Summer at North Park Covenant Church

On February 17, from 4 to 6 pm, North Park Covenant Church (5250 N Christiana Ave.) will host a performance of Alan Marshall’s Freedom Summer. This 70-minute performance surrounds the audience with freedom songs, speeches, and character-driven drama to bring to life the tensions and transformations of the 1964 Mississippi Summer Project, during which nearly 1,000 college students traveled to Mississippi to support African Americans in securing their voting rights. The performance will be followed by a panel discussion, led by leaders from local community organizations (Albany Park Community Center, Hollywood-North Park Community Association, World Relief). The event is free; child care will be provided.
