France Travel Course – MNST 6152: The Art of Mission

October 13-23, 2023

Experience how God speaks through the arts. This hybrid travel course traces the church’s use of visual and musical art forms from the Catacombs to the various expressions arising today. Focused discussions with practitioners will discern contextual lessons about the role of art in God’s mission applicable wherever God’s calls and sends. Beginning with several days in Paris, we will engage with artists in ministry, then connect with international work in Lyon, ending with several days worshiping with the Taizé community. Fulfills Cultural Diversity Elective requirement in all degrees. To receive more information and an application form, contact: Paul de Neui at pdeneui@northpark.edu.

Womxn’s History Month at North Park

Annually in March, the Office of Diversity and Intercultural Life (ODIL) celebrates Womxn’s History Month. This annual declared month highlights the contributions of womxn to events in history and contemporary society. It is celebrated in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia, corresponding with International Women’s Day (US) on March 8.

Womxn’s History Month is a month-long celebration where we work to uplift the narratives of women of all cultures and backgrounds. Often, especially when holding intersecting marginalized identities, women have their stories distorted, minimized, or erased. This month, and every month, we work to destabilize this pattern in representation.

The term Womxn (/ˈwʊmən/) is intended to center women,

as well as to more explicitly include women of color and different cultures.”

On the Topic:

“Migration, Resilience, and Trauma”

Event Date: March 8, 2023

Time: 7:00 PM (EST) / 6:00 pm (CST) / 5:00 pm (MST) / 4:00 pm (PST)

For this sixteenth HSP Exchange, we are delighted to welcome Dr. Mayra Picos-Lee, a native of Mexico who teaches pastoral care and counseling at Palmer Theological Seminary of Eastern University and is the Director of the MTS Latino/a Ministries program. Dr. Picos-Lee also serves as Board Chair for the Hispanic Summer Program (HSP) and Special Assistant in Pastoral Care and Counseling with International Ministries of American Baptist Churches, USA, to support its global partners in their work and ministries among migrants and refugees worldwide.

Dr. Picos-Lee’s HSP Exchange lecture will explore the increased sense of vulnerability that has characterized the experiences of migration and displacement for latinx people and communities as a source of pain and trauma and resilience and empowerment. What makes the difference? How do we build hope from despair and resilience from trauma?

In addition to her role at Palmer Theological Seminary, Dr. Picos Lee will teach a fully online history course at the HSP 2023 Summer Session entitled “Migración, desplazamiento, y trauma en las comunidades latinx / Migration, displacement, and trauma in Latinx communities.”

Note: this lecture will be followed by a QnA with the speaker.

If you would like to be part of this event, please RSVP by Monday, March 6, 2023.
