COMMUNITY WORSHIP & WEEKLY PRAYER

This week, as our community worship falls on election day, we will be gathering for a special time of prayer. We recognize that we and the communities we serve are experiencing a range of emotions as we reflect on the ways this election could impact us and those we love.

As we fulfill our civic responsibilities at the polls, let us embrace our role in God’s kingdom of truth, justice, and peace, rejecting rhetoric that demonizes any individual or community and renewing our commitment to our divine citizenship.

Feel free to bring a journal and a pen this Tuesday as we engage in intercession for our nation and its leaders, and place our hope in our sovereign God.

Join us Tuesday at 4:30pm CT in Isaacson Chapel. If you are not able to come in person, we will have a distinct time of prayer hosted online. Please join Zoom here or use Meeting ID: 884 3892 1088 and Passcode: 305205.

In case you missed it…

“Following Christ’s Way in a Complex World,” by Dr. David Bjorlin

“Politics is a messy business. How do we as Christians navigate our broken system with only imperfect candidates? I have lived and worked in evangelical settings all my life, and one of the lessons I learned earliest from my evangelical upbringing was that a person’s character mattered more than their gifts, accomplishments, or abilities. Yet when I listen to political discourse among evangelicals, character is often skipped over as secondary or inessential to what goals the candidate can help achieve. I understand the urge, but I simply don’t believe this is a position that can be upheld biblically.”

Don’t miss Dr. David Bjorlin’s featured piece about how we can follow Christ’s lead as we cast our votes this election season.

“Political and Hospitable: Engaging Neighbors”

We are grateful to Drs. Sophia Magallanes-Tsang and Drew J. Strait for engaging in an insightful, challenging, and informative dialogue, “Political and Hospitable: Engaging Neighbors,” regarding how churches can embody true neighborly love in our nation’s current political moment. You can watch a recording of the lecture below:

Samuel DeWitt Proctor Conference, Inc. 2025 Clergy and Lay Leadership Conference

From conference organizers: “We are at a perilous time in which the presumption of democracy in America and, indeed, the world is at stake. For many, the claim to “justice for all” is not a given, and efforts to foster greater equity and support the diversity of America are being thwarted or reversed. We need only to examine Project 2025 to get a sense of the growing divide in this nation. The process of experiential, educational and cultural erasure is of special significance for the people of African descent in the United States. Considering all the challenges confronting this nation at this point in time, we thought it most fitting to descend upon Little Rock, Arkansas, and be reminded of the transformative history of the area represented by the Central High School Little Rock Nine and the 1919 Elaine Arkansas massacre.

Once and again, our programs and workshops speak to these times to offer the framing and tools for emerging and seasoned faith leaders to navigate the issues of this present moment. We are engaged in reconstituting a Nation where justice is truly for all! We are stronger with a unified agenda, especially peer-to-peer engagement and exchange.”

You can find out more information about the conference and register here.
