Some Final(s) Encouragement

Students, as I’m sure you’re aware the semester is coming to a close. As you study for your finals and complete projects hear this encouragement from your professors:

Students: I pray God gives you everything you need to finish this semester well—even just to finish, itself a victory. Perhaps right about now you’ll relate to Jerome’s description of learning Hebrew: “What labor I spent up on this task, what difficulties I went through, how often I despaired, how often I gave over and then in my eagerness to learn commenced again, can be attested both by myself the subject of this misery and by those who then lived with me. But I thank the Lord that from this seed of learning sown in bitterness I now cull sweet fruits.” Hopefully this semester’s learning hasn’t been too bitter—but as you traverse this final week, keep in view the sweet fruits ahead! You can do it!!

God sees, knows, and cares about you—how you’ve sacrificed and persevered in your education, and during a pandemic! There’s a New Testament Greek word, spoudazo, often translated, “make every effort” or “do your best” (e.g., 2 Tim 2:15). Thank you for doing your best to let your education be about discipleship and not simply a grade.

I know this has been for many a difficult semester in a difficult year, but you are so very close to the finish line! Finish well. Remember why you are here. Remember who it is that has called you, for “the one who has called you is faithful” (1 Thess. 5:24).

You got this! Take it a day at a time, breathe, and remember that God’s got you:)

Personal growth in your spiritual life is not measured by how many pages read but by the deepening of your rootedness in Christ. In the midst of final assignments may you recognize the presence of truth within you, re-shaping you from the inside out into a fuller humanity, more reflective of the source.  Press on in faith that the one who began that good work in you will take you all the way. Psalm 119:99.
