THAILAND 2019-2020

MNST 6130—The Gospel in Asian Context

For this year’s trip to Thailand the theme is on children being a gift to the Body of Christ.

God has often used children in mission. Samuel was only a boy when God called him. God used an unnamed Jewish slave girl in the healing of her master Naaman. A twelve-year-old Jesus changed the thinking of learned elders. Jesus said that unless you become as a little child you will never enter the kingdom of God. What does that mean in the Buddhist world? There are historic and contemporary examples of God’s call and equipping of children. SEANET 2020 will focus on children’s contribution to God’s mission, change agents in society, and partners in holistic transformation, particularly in Buddhist contexts.

Join us as we learn more from this theme being presented at the 2020 SEANET Conference in Chiang Mai. On our way over to the conference, we will a stop in Ansan City, just outside of Seoul, South Korea, to visit a ministry to Thai factory workers, and then on to Bangkok and northeast Thailand before we finish our time in Chiang Mai at the conference.

Dates for travel:  Friday, December 27 – Saturday, January 11, 2020

Cost: $3,800 plus tuition.

ECUADOR MARCH 2020

MNST 6125 – Faith Issues in the Americas

The theme for this trip to Ecuador is The God Who Sees: Learning Together about Trauma.

From earthquakes to interpersonal violence to human trafficking—South America has experienced tremendous trauma. Inevitably, churches and church leaders are impacted by such events. This class gathers pastors, lay leaders, and students from North and South America to listen, to share ideas, and to collaborate in order to provide effective pastoral care within this context. This class will particularly focus on the role that lament and forgiveness play in the healing process for victims of trauma. We will also address burnout and learn how to care well for pastors and lay leaders who serve this population.

After an experience of trauma, one may believe that God does not see his or her suffering. We hope that our time together will create an environment where each person experiences that he or she is seen by the God of hope.

Dates for travel: Thursday, March 5 – Saturday, March 15

Cost: $1,500 plus tuition.
