This semester we will be spotlighting students from different programs! NPTS is a vibrant community of scholars who are studying through a variety of modes. Here are just a few of our students who are studying in the School of Restorative Arts!
Melvin “Boricua” Centeno
Where are you from?
Born and Raised in Brooklyn, New York
Why have you chosen to go to Seminary?
To expand my borders in Christian Ministry. Wanted to learn more about the church and the impact one can have on society.
If you could narrow it down to one thing that everyone needs to know that you have learned from NPTS, what would it be?
That no matter how well versed you may be in understanding the Bible, there’s so much more revelatory experiences outside the 66!
David Nazeeh Bailey
Where are you from?
Chicago, Illinois
Why have you chosen to go to Seminary?
To pick up and learn the tools to be an effective religious teacher. To learn enough that would be helpful tools that aid those that are heartbroken, stressed out, or at a complete loss of hope, or the dying who yearns for a comforting voice and kind words as they try to fully accept and prepare for the hereafter.
If you could narrow it down to one thing that everyone needs to know that you have learned from NPTS, what would it be?
Being a good listener, not only with my ears, but also with my heart and spirit.
Antonio “$lim” Balderas
Where are you from?
I am from Chicago, Illinois. I lived on the South side of Chicago most of my life. Once my family lived in New York City around the time I was 6 or 7.
Why have you chosen to go to Seminary?
I decided to attend North Park because I feel that I have a keen ability to relate to all people no matter race, creed, or color. The church needs more disciples and mentors, I believe in straight talk ministry. The truth doesn’t need support or changing.
If you could narrow it down to one thing that everyone needs to know that you have learned from NPTS, what would it be?
I learned that just like it takes a village to raise a child, it also takes a village to raise a theological seminary, we need good shepherds. I’ve learned that kindness and patience pays off and makes us all better people just like the instructors and professors I’ve met at North Park.
William Jones
Where are you from?
I was raised in Pittsburgh, PA.
Why have you chosen to go to Seminary?
I chose to go to seminary because I wanted to learn more about Christianity. I enjoyed the Christian Community.
If you could narrow it down to one thing that everyone needs to know that you have learned from NPTS, what would it be?
Through many years of academic quests at NPTS. I learned a great deal about the values of life. What I’ve learned most, “empathy.” Treat all people, white and black, with respect and love.
