This Week’s Notes…October 16

This week is Fall Reading Week, which means our traditional courses take a break and instead we welcome our Congregational Vitality Certificate students to campus for their intensive class.

Don’t forget to look ahead at things coming up as well as look back at previous articles on our blog to see updates and insights from your seminary community.

Keep these important dates on your calendar…

  • October 27 – Reformation 500-year Anniversary Lecture (Dr. Stephen Chester)
  • October 30 – Spring registration begins

No regular chapel services this week.

Reading the Bible with Martin Luther after 500 Years

Reflections on Luther’s Legacy and Why it Still Matters by Dr. Stephen Chester

Join us in marking the 500 year anniversary of the Reformation through this lecture by our own Dr. Stephen Chester.  Dr. Chester’s book Reading Paul with the Reformers: Reconciling Old and New Perspectives was published this summer and will bring fresh insight into this event.

Friday, October 27th, 7:30 pm, Isaacson Chapel, Nyvall Hall
Join the Covenant History Commission for an informal pre-lecture conversation on the Reformation heritage of the Evangelical Covenant Church, 6 pm in Olsson Lounge, Nyvall Hall.

Travel Course Thailand 2018

Are you interested in traveling to Thailand to learn more about Christianity in that context? Whether a residential or distance student, you have the opportunity to join the 3-credit course “MNST-6130: The Gospel in Asian Context.” This hybrid course includes online work that culminates in a trip to Thailand from January 2-13, 2018. In Thailand, the class will join Thai Christians in ministry and attend the annual SEANET conference. The conference theme this year is the Role of Ritual in the Buddhist context. Scholarships are available. Please contact Ben Wickstrom and Paul de Neui at cwcs@covchurch.orgfor more information.

Getting Ready for J-Term and Spring Registration

Registration opens on October 30th.  Make sure to read last week’s blog by Alex Macias on letting opportunities pass you by.  Take a look at the courses for our upcoming term on the Student Resources page of our seminary website.
